inconnus des collections privées .
by Burkhard Gottschalk
Africa incognita. Burkhard Gottschalk Verlag
Afrique. Article du Continent noir. Volume 3
The third volume of the
beautiful series dedicated by the German scientist and editor Burkhard
Gottschalk to the items taken from previously unpublished international
private collections is dedicated exclusively to the Senufo art. Gottschalk
had in previous years dedicated to this important population that lives in
the savannah between Ivory Coast, Mali and Burkina Faso, some publications,
among which comes to mind Senoufo, Massa et les statues du Pore
printed in 2002 and Madebele. Buschgeister im Land der Senufo of
1987, as well as in the previous volume of this series released in 2007,
dedicated a chapter to the helmet masks of this ethnic group. In this latest
book the German author presents 242 objects almost everyone from private
collections and almost always still unpublished, despite the very high
standard, as is usually seen in the Gottschalk publications, that in some
cases is truly comparable to the one of a highly rated museum.
Also amongst the pieces
discussed there is the sitting sculpture, that we know well and appreciate,
of our member Elio Revera.
